Kevin Homer, Facility and Exhibits Technician
Kevin started volunteering at the Science Factory many years ago, in the era of the Dinosaurs (remember The Dinosaurs and Ice Age Mammals?). Last year he started volunteering again and it became clear that we needed him on board. Kevin supports the museum and staff by making sure the facility and exhibits are working properly, and assists in the development of new exhibits. Kevin has worked as an industrial sheet metal and plant worker for large companies such as Campbell Soup, Pepsi Cola and Gallo to name a few, and he is no stranger to mechanical problem solving. Kevin grew up in Creswell, attended Lane Community College and graduated from University of Oregon with a BS in Business Administration.

Kevin Kurtz, Education Director
Kevin holds degrees in both English and elementary education. He has worked as a research assistant in a marine biology laboratory and, for most of the past decade, as an environmental educator for organizations such as the South Carolina Aquarium and the Center for Birds of Prey. He is also a children’s author whose first book A Day in the Salt Marsh was published in 2007. At the Science Factory, Kevin will be coordinating, teaching and developing education programs for children, families and school groups.
Kevin had a good 2009.
He received news that a second children’s book he has written will be published. Titled "A Day on the
Mountain," it is a sequel to his first book, "A Day in the Salt Marsh." It
gives children a close look at the animals, plants and ecosystems on the Cascade
and Rocky Mountains and how they change as the elevation changes. For more
information on Kevin’s books, visit http://www.sylvandellpublishing.com/Marsh.php
Kevin was also chosen as one of only fifteen educators from around the country
to be part of a research expedition to study the geology and oceanography of the
Pacific Ocean from southern California to Victoria, B.C., with marine scientists.
The 12-day mission is the Consortium of Ocean Leadership's "School of Rock"
program. The research vessel left from San Diego in June. Kevin came
back with many great experiences and activities to share with local teachers and
Science Factory visitors. For more information on School of Rock, visit http://www.
