All Ages/Drop-in. Free event. Regularly priced dome-shows.

Enjoy FREE barbeque dinner provided by our friends at NW Natural from 4 - 6pm!

Join us in celebration of a once-in-a-lifetime astronomical phenomenon. For the last time in our lives, the planet Venus will transit the Sun. What does this mean, you ask? Normally, Venus' orbit carries the dense planet either above or below the Sun, relative to our view from Earth. However on June 5, 2012, you can see Venus slowly move across the face of the Sun. This rare sight will not occur again until 2117!

Experts from the Science Factory and the Eugene Astronomical Society will have solar telescopes set up on the lawn so everyone can safely see & enjoy this unique occurence. The transit begins at 3:06 PDT, the mid-point of the transit is at 6:27pm and the Sun will set before Venus completes its journey across the Sun's face. S.E.T.I. - The Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence plays in the Exploration Dome at 3:30 & 4:30pm. At 5:30pm, a live show explaining the transit will be presented by Megan Force. Eclipse glasses are available for purchase.

If the weather is bad, the Exploration Dome shows will play, but the viewing will be cancelled.
