Membership FAQ The Science Factory introduced new membership categories, prices, and admission policies effective February 1, 2013. Below are answers to some frequently asked questions about the new categories of membership and membership in general. Please feel free to ask Science Factory staff if you have additional questions. Why are you changing your membership categories, prices, and benefits? In response to member and visitor feedback, we adjusted our membership categories to better accommodate different family sizes and provide more flexibility in whom members may bring as guests. The changes also reflect the new opportunities available to Science Factory members created by the upgrade of the planetarium to the full-dome digital Exploration Dome. As a Science Factory member, which Exploration Dome shows can I see for free? You will enjoy free admission to all seasonal star show videos. You will receive a 50% discount for all other regularly scheduled Exploration Dome videos, live star shows, and other live presentations in the Dome. See current show schedules online or at the front desk. Can I bring anyone with me? You can bring children or adult guests as indicated for your membership category. For example, if you have a 2 + 2 Family membership you may bring two children or adults as guests each time you visit. (Or, if only one of the adult members is bringing guests, you may bring three children or adults as guests.) Your guests do not have to be members of your family or members of the Science Factory. Can I bring another adult whose name is not on my card? Adult guests do not need to be named on your card as long as one adult listed as a member on the card accompanies them. Do guests receive the member discount on Dome videos? Yes, as long as your guest is accompanying you he or she receives all the benefits of your membership. Can I add additional people to my membership? How many? You may add up to four guests to any Individual or Family level of membership by adding $10/guest to your membership fee. For example, you can purchase a Family 2 + 2 membership, add one guest for $10/yr., and get a Family 2 + 2 + 1 membership. If I add a guest to my membership, can I bring anyone, or does it have to be a specific named person? Guests do not have to be named and you may bring different guests on different visits. However, guests must always be accompanied by at least one adult member listed on the card. Is Tot Day still free for Science Factory members? Yes. Tot Day will continue to be the first Friday of each month and will be free for Science Factory Member Famlies at the Individual 1 + 1 and all Family membership levels. However, guests members bring on Tot Day will be charged regular Tot Day fees if they choose to participate in Tot Day, since Tot Day is a special event. Do Science Factory members still receive discounts on summer camps, classes, and birthday parties? Yes, program discounts for Science Factory members remain unchanged. Can I add additional guests or upgrade at a later date? You may add additional guests or upgrade your existing membership at any time but the expiration date of the membership will remain the same. GENERAL MEMBERSHIP QUESTIONS I am a member of an ASTC museum. What can I do for free? If you are a member of a museum that currently participates in the ASTC Passport Program, you are entitled to free admission to the Science Factory exhibit hall at our Family 2 + 4 level (2 adult family members and 4 child or adult guests). You must show your membership card to receive these benefits. Admission to Dome shows will be charged at the non-member rate. I am a member of an ASTC museum. Do I get discounts on summer camps, classes, and birthday parties? No. You must be a member of the Science Factory in order to receive discounted rates for Science Factory programs. Do you offer any discounted membership rates? Yes. University Students, active military and seniors (62+) receive a $5 discount on any membership with a valid ID. Do I receive a discount in the museum store if I have a Science Factory membership? Supporting Members ($155 level) receive a 10% discount on store merchandise. Can I buy a membership for more than one year? No. At the present time all of our memberships are annual memberships.
