Volunteer Opportunities

If you have a passion for science, a flair for teaching, a desire to improve education in the community, or a love of kids and families, we have a place for you at the Science Factory! Our volunteers range from high school students to retirees, and come from all walks of life. To sign up, visit our online form or fill out an application at our front desk. Here are some of the roles we offer:

"The Science Factory is a vibrant and colorful place. It is full of fun exhibits and hands-on activities. The building is always bustling with giddy children running from fun thing to fun thing. It's a stellar place to volunteer. They keep you busy, but not bored, and you're always doing something different."

Peter Qualtere-Burcher
Senior, Churchill High School
Exhibit Guides: Our volunteer educators work whenever the museum is open: on weekends, on no-school days, and during field trips. In just one 90-minute session, we will train you on the basics of interacting with visitors and give you all of the information you need to be a kid-science expert. Your time commitment is flexible, and can be as little as 6 hours per month.

Summer Camp Counselors: The Science Factory runs nine weeks of summer camps that serve over 400 kids from ages 3 to 14. We need counselors in every classroom, every day. Join us for one week, or for the whole summer. You will assist the teachers in delivering fun, hands-on lessons and lead the kids through lunch activities.

Planetarium Presenters: Reach for the stars with us! We’re looking for volunteers to assist in the Exploration Dome, our planetarium and full-dome digital theater. Volunteers will collect tickets, welcome visitors to the shows, and run the digital A/V equipment for each show. The Exploration Dome has several shows every weekend, plus occasional weekday shows for school field trip groups and the public. Knowledge of astronomy is strongly desired.

Behind the Scenes: We always need help with all of the administrative and organizational tasks that keep the museum running smoothly. You can help with preparing classroom materials, assembling mailings, general office work, exhibit maintenance, and many other tasks.

To our dedicated volunteers, we offer rewards and benefits, including discounts at the Science Factory store, admission to other area museums, and Science Factory memberships. For more information, call 541-682-7892 or e-mail volunteers@sciencefactory.org. You can sign up online or in person at the Science Factory front desk.
