April 19, 2017 -- The Science Factory has released the following statement in support of the March for Science:
The Science Factory (formerly the Willamette Science & Technology Center) has passionately engaged its community in science since 1961. During the last 56 years, our species has used science to eliminate diseases, invent LED lighting, transplant hearts, walk on the moon, create the personal computer, connect us through the Internet and smartphones, and explore the depths of our oceans and the enormity of our universe. Without science, life as we know it couldn’t exist. Science propels civilizations forward.
We believe that science education plays a critical role in creating informed societies consisting of critical thinkers, creative problem solvers, and engaged citizens. This is why the Science Factory is proud to stand with peer institutions, scientists, and concerned citizens to support, and participate in, the March for Science on April 22, 2017. At the museum on this day, our annual Earth Day programs will educate visitors on how science contributes to our planet’s sustainable future.
It’s difficult to imagine a world without science. Science matters - it’s everywhere and for everyone. We stand in support of its unbiased investigations and observations, which are indispensable to the inhabitants of this planet.
